The following images display the essential vs non-essential amino acids and an overall diagram for the biosynthetic precursors that form the amino acids. The link cited shows the particular enzymes and mechanistic pathways used for each biosynthesis. Note that many of these pathways converge or correlate heavily with the degradation pathways, so please cross-examine with my Amino Acid Catabolism PDF to see the relationship. With this major connection, it makes understanding the convoluted pathways much easier!

Some of the pathways are merely the reverse but require different enzymes because the degradative pathways may be irreversible (eg. Proline Oxidase converting Proline to 1-Pyrroline-5-Carboxylate vs. Pyrroline-5-Carboxylate Reductase catalyzing the reverse reaction; also note the uses of NAD+/NADH vs. NADP+/NADPH, some enzymes use specific ones, while others can use both NAD+/NADP+ or NADH/NADPH; These are peculiar traits but very important) 1. Essential vs. Non-Essential Chart!
